Master Stylists

Catherine Imbesi
Co-Owner of Salon Ciseaux

Professional stylist Catherine Imbesi has accomplished a lot since moving to Orlando from Brooklyn, New York when she was a teenager. An accomplished multi-tasker, Imbesi opened her own salon while finishing her college degree and working full time as a hair stylist.  For Imbesi, the creation of Salon Ciseaux (French for “scissors”) was the perfect endeavor for a woman whose mantra of “work smarter, not harder” has certainly paid off.

Imbesi was employed at On Stage Salon for two years before moving to Moriah Brandon’s Salon in Orlando where she stayed another eight years mastering the art of hairstyling.

After 10 years in the beauty business, Imbesi longed to create a work environment that she could openly embrace every day.  In October of 1995, Imbesi started Salon Ciseaux in Winter Park with friend and business partner, Arlene Webber.

Imbesi, who inherited curly, Italian locks, and Webber, who manages Jamaican curls, stand united in their desire to ensure that beautiful hair is universal.  “Together we have always felt that all client’s hair should look trendy and be manageable, not just those blessed with easy hair, ” insists Imbesi who has always been intrigued by the idea of working with a variety of hair types. “Like art, there are no boundaries when you can work with more than one type of medium,” says Imbesi.

From day one, Imbesi has focused on educating herself to further develop her professional skills.  She realized that the more classes she took, the more she learned and the more clients could feel her energy and excitement for styling hair.  She has traveled the world to pursue continuing education in cosmopolitan cities such as London, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, and Miami as well as countries such as Spain and Germany. Imbesi, a certified Master Colorist and Stylist, has trained with Vidal Sasson, Wella and Toni & Guy and continues to champion continuing education for Salon Ciseaux professionals.

This approach has worked well, as Imbesi has received recognition and numerous accolades within the industry in addition to attracting a celebrity fan base that includes Cat Cora, the Iron Chef’s first female chef.

In 2008, Imbesi and Webber were handpicked by celebrated fashion designer Juan Carlos Obando to style hair for the models in his ready-to-wear debut at New York Fashion Week this February.

When overseeing the business side of Salon Ciseaux, Imbesi benefits from the experience and knowledge of her coursework at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.

When not working at Salon Ciseaux, Imbesi can be found spending quality time with her family, working out, traveling and donating time and resources to a variety of local charities and non-profit organizations. Her husband, Theo Lotz, is a well-known curator and artist in Orlando.

Arlene Webber
Co-Owner of Salon Ciseaux

The salon isn’t necessarily the first place people think of when the subject of breaking down barriers between different cultures comes up. Yet, it is the perfect setting for Arlene Webber to combine her skill of working with people with her desire to create a comfortable place where all cultures come together to feel beautiful.

Born in London and raised in Jamaica, Webber has studied hair trends around the world in countries such as Prague, Italy and Russia in a quest to immerse herself in the diversity of global beauty trends.  When Webber moved to Orlando in 1981, she was searching for continuing education and new opportunities which led her to open Salon Ciseaux in Winter Park with business partner Catherine Imbesi.

Webber prides herself on the opportunities for continuing education that she provides for the staff at Salon Ciseaux with in-house training programs as well as trips to New York City and San Francisco to learn from industry professionals.  The salon’s dedication to staying current with innovative trends has paid off, as Salon Ciseaux has been continuously ranked as one of the top 10 salons in Orlando Weekly’s “Best of Orlando” for the past decade.

Webber, a professional image consultant, is known for her incredible customer service and unsurpassed talent in styling all types of hair.  In 2008, Webber and her Salon Ciseaux team were handpicked by celebrated fashion designer Juan Carlos Obando to style hair for the models in his ready-to-wear debut at New York Fashion Week this February.

Despite this success, Webber says that her greatest challenge has been educating her clients about the multicultural nature of the salon. “People are used to going to hair salons that specialize in certain kinds of hair, so it can be hard to accept the idea of one salon that does it all,” says Webber.

In an effort to share the wealth of her success with the community, Webber spearheads Salon Ciseaux’s involvement with several charities, including Locks of Love, Cuts 4 the Community and the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary. Her dedication to volunteering and philanthropy reflects her belief that a person’s actions should come from the heart, not the pocket.

With all of these achievements, Webber values one accomplishment above all else: showing her daughters that it is possible to have it all as she is both a mother and an entrepreneur/life coach.  However, she is quick to point out that these tasks cannot be achieved alone and recognizes the importance of having a team of people to help and encourage her in life. In fact, one of Webber’s greatest role models is Behnam Bakhshandeh, the founder of Primeco Consulting, who helped her make her dream a reality with his belief in her as a female entrepreneur.

Webber attributes her success to her philosophy on life. “Sharing and doing what you love is crucial,” she says, adding “never be too big to listen.”

When she isn’t fostering multicultural harmony through her work in the salon or pursuing multiple endeavors as an inspiring female entrepreneur, Webber spends time with her two daughters and continues to travel the world, a testimony to her philosophy, “Happiness is not a desire, you create it.”
